The Kubr Estate

  The very first mention of the Kubr estate dates back to the year of  993 when the letter of foundation of the nearby Brevnov monastery was issued. It has never been proven, though, if the mentioned document was not a fake. The oldest record of the Ruzyne small castle and the court dates back to the 15th century. The village was taken over by the Praguers during the Hussite raids and changed nominal owners sevaral times later on, mainly due to the change of administrative divisions as history went by.

 The Old Square of Ruzyne boasts several farms and other village estates which have survived till now. The Kubr estate counts among them. This core of the late village is one of the best-cared-about sets of folklore architecture in Prague. All of the mentioned estates were founded in the 16th century at the latest and their facades face the square.

 The Kubr estate belongs to the oldest estates of Ruzyne. The Kubr clan was known very well, at least locally. Members of the clan played important roles in local administration and were prominent owners of farms and other buildings and land plots as well. Probably the first of the clan who owned a hotel of some kind was Vavrinec Kubr who built an inn called At White Lamb in the nearby Stodulky village in 1740. The fact he financed the construction all by himself meant the clan had to be strong both economically and politically.

The Kubr estate was originally built in Baroque style and was restored with adding Classicist features later on. There is a solar clock  above the Baroque gate which dates back to 1731. The estate has been protected by the state as a historic building of significance since 1964.
